I've used caffeine as a workaround (so the computer won't go to sleep) on the WDTB19S. Guess what dell, it only happened once with one of my thinkpad in uni, and that was because something got stuck and turned it back on. And they can't be arsed to fix their buggy P.O.S firmwares, so they tell you instead "omg no, laptops are totally NOT made to go in backpacks!! you must turn them off first or IT WILL CLEANSE YOUR BACKPACK WITH ITS HOLY FIRE". This sucks big time - like Dell actually. So whenever I reboot or my laptop goes to sleep, BAM! I read a lot about the issue best summarized on : my TLDR is that it comes from Dell firmware: it doesn't attribute enough bandwidth to anything else if there's even one display connected on the regular ports (HDMI or DP, doesn't matter!)

It must be connected AFTER everything works, otherwise it works but either one or both of the 4k remain blank. This 3 screens setup work iff I boot without the WD19TBS. I have one too, for my LG49 ultrawide (connected by HDMI or DP, more on that below) and 2x USBC 4k displays right under the LG (for their sweet OLEDs) It's not your macbook: the Dell WD19TBS is a pain. I'm not blaming my TB3 dock, I am very much blaming MacOS, as they still don't support DisplayPort MST.among other standards. If I ever reboot or re-dock, I have to turn off adaptive sync on the monitor to get a picture out of macOS, as VRR can't be turned off. The workaround is to turn off adaptive sync, connect the monitor to the dock, let MacOS detect it as 60HZ, change it to 120hz in the control panel, and then turn adaptive sync back on. But, as soon as I clamshell the laptop, VRR turns back on and i lose my picture again. Click below and use Uk to see all ratings, product awards and conclusions.
